My theory is that the effect the internet has had on political education has been similar to the effect that the Protestant reformation originally had on Christian theology when it weakened the Vatican’s monopoly authority: it democratized the spread of knowledge and allowed for the exploration of new ideas to the great benefit of millions, but also eventually enabled the emergence of countless charlatans with absolutely insane ideas to present themselves as the new truth-givers and acquire power accordingly
