Blaming individual consumer choices for broad sweeping problems like food rotting in the fields, or say climate change, is a fantastic way of distracting people from the real cause AND gives people an easy out to feel like they’re making a difference so they don’t go out protesting in the streets or vote out of office the politicians who allow and exacerbate these systemic issues. 

All of these campaigns to buy ugly food, or stop using straws are the equivalent of the teacher giving you a gold star while the principal burns the school down.
